Although, in our defense, all three of us have been fighting head colds, so our energy and enthusiasm levels were not on par with a weekend full of adventure and excitement. With that said we did manage to get out of the house a few times, and Hadley conquered the slides at the park all by herself, which I think totally qualifies as an adventure in Hadley's book!
One of Johnathon's coworkers gave us a baby pool float, and we couldn't wait to take it for a test ride! Hadley loves the water and the beach, so we headed out on Sunday morning to try it out.
Another perfect day at the beach! |
Hadley normally loves the water, but for whatever reason, it was really cold that day and, as you can see by Hadley's face, she wasn't loving the cooler temperature...
She eventually recovered, and we settled for playing in the sand, and an taking an occasional dip in the water. Our trip to the beach really took it out of Hadley and she took a solid afternoon nap, which meant Johnathon got to play video games while I went to the Christian Women's Fellowship Lunch at church to hear my friend Paula speak!
Sunday evening we headed back to the beach so Hadley could hit up the slides. Hadley saw one of her friends go headfirst down the slides the other day, and has been thinking about it ever since. She had gotten to the top of the slide, but hadn't pulled the trigger on going down herself, until Sunday.
She laid herself down, kicked her feet out behind her, shimmied herself over the edge, and went down the slide like a champ! There was no stopping her after that. She wanted to go down again and again, and even tried to elbow her way past another little boy, so she could go down first! We had a brief lesson in taking turns, but I foresee having to revisit that subject in the near future.
We finished the night by watching the sunset with friends at the beach, and Hadley had to check out the waves one more time...
Hadley used her new found sliding skills to slide down the mini sand dune |
The next day we all woke up with various stages of head colds, so we spent most of the day playing at home at watching House of Cards. Poor Johnathon had signed up to run in the Down Wind Dash, which is a one mile race down the side of the airport runway with the wind at your back. He ran it two years ago and came in fifth, and he was ready to try and beat his previous time and place this year! Hadley and I tagged along to cheer him on, and we were so excited because he came in 4th this year and finished the mile race in 5:48! Way to go Johnathon!!
All the runners at the starting line |
They're off! |
Johnathon finishing strong! |
The race may have been down wind, but the bike ride back home was AGAINST the wind, and it was a rough one. We were exhausted, and fighting head colds so we pretty much called it an early night as soon as we got home!
Hadley's cold seems to be on the mend, and I'm hoping Johnathon and I feel better by next weekend because the St. Patty's Day celebration at the Vet's Hall in Sunday night!
Finally, even though this technically didn't happen over the weekend, I still wanted to share the picture...
There was a solar eclipse today, and a 60% eclipse was visible from Kwaj! I was not set up to properly view the eclipse, but Johnathon and his coworkers went out in welding masks, and some sort of special eclipse viewer to watch it! Johnathon was able to get a picture of it, and I thought it was too cool not to share!
This was the picture Johnathon took through the viewer...It wasn't really that dark out... |
And that's our weekend recap/life lately!
Hadley looks so happy on that slide! And, that pic of the solar eclipse is great! That in and of itself is some adventure!
ReplyDeleteOh it's so beautiful there! That water and sand...what a dream! We've never seen House of Cards. Should we add that one to our Netflix watch list?
