When I was pregnant with Hadley, Johnathon and I chose not to find out what we were having. Everyone loved to ask me what I was hoping for, and I always felt bad saying anything besides, " I don't care as long as they're healthy!" While obviously I was hoping for a healthy baby over anything else, a big part of me was not so secretly hoping it was a girl! Not that I have anything against boys, a boy would've been great, but a big and somewhat embarrassingly large part of me wanted a girl so that I could have a lot of fun dressing her up! I had visions of a tiny little baby with a giant bow on her head...

...and lots of ruffly, girly dresses! Since we were surprised with Hadley, I waited to shop for most of her baby clothes until after she was born so that I could buy gender specific items. It was only after I began my search for baby girl clothes that I became seriously overwhelmed, and began to rethink my excitement over dressing little girls! With boys, it's shorts and shirts, with girls it's dresses, tops and pants, bloomers, bows, shoes...so many things!!! Plus, Hadley grew and changed sizes so often in the beginning, I couldn't bring myself to splurge on all the fancy girl clothes that I had dreamed of putting her in! Also, I may or may not have been super hormonal, so the thought of even getting myself dressed in the morning, let alone coordinating a pint sized ensemble, seemed daunting!
Fortunately, the hormonal freakout passed, and through some trial and error, I have come up with my list of favorite places to shop for little girl clothes!!
CARTER'S
Romper & Cardigan Set |
I had to start with Carter's because it is easily where I got the majority of Hadley's clothes the first year! It seemed like Hadley would wear one size of clothes for 2-3 months MAX, before she would outgrow that size and move onto another. Because of this, I really couldn't bring myself to splurge on a lot of the boutique type baby clothes for her everyday wear. That's why I love Carter's! Their clothes are super affordable, and I can definitely say I have never bought anything full price there because there are ALWAYS sales going on or coupons to use! In addition to being really affordable, Carter's stuff is really cute and soft, so it's perfect for babies to sleep and play in!
2-piece top & short set |
BABY GAP/GYMBOREE
Gymboree Kite Print Dress |
Baby Gap Floral Butterfly Dress/Outfit |
If I don't find what I'm looking for at Carter's, my next stop is usually Gymboree or Baby Gap. I feel like both stores are pretty comparable in terms of price and style, and they both usually offer frequent sales!! Plus, Gap and Gymboree have lots of classic, girly options that I love!
Striped Bunny Raglan |
MATILDA JANE
Picnic Pie Tunic |
I have blogged about my love of Matilda Jane before, but I'll do it again! Their stuff is so whimsical, fun, and bright, and is everything I think little girl clothes should be! With that said, Matilda Jane definitely comes with a bigger price tag, so I held off buying a lot of 12 month and under sizes just because I feel like it wasn't worth it for the number of times Hadley would get to wear it. However, now that Hadley is wearing her sizes for longer periods I've bought several pieces for her, and received some as gifts and I am always impressed with how they look, fit, and the overall quality! Even Johnathon comments on how cute Hadley's Matilda Jane stuff is! The good news is that there are lots of resale sites on Facebook and the internet that sell discounted Matilda Jane clothes and are a great option if you don't want to pay full price, or if you are looking to resell your daughters stuff! So essentially they pay for themselves...or that is at least how I sell them to Johnathon! ;)
Blueberry Pearl Dress |
Chiffon Cake Top |
BODEN
I shared my love of Boden as part of last week's Friday Favorites, but Boden is another brand that is worth the splurge to me! When I think of Boden clothes I think: soft & sweet! Boden clothes are so so soft, and always have the sweetest patterns, color, and appliques! They are a little more subtle and muted than Matilda Jane, and I like having the different styles in Hadley's closet. I also think that of all of Hadleys clothes, her Boden brand stuff has held up best after multiple washes! You can buy Boden online, and they are stocked in Nordstroms as well.
Applique Dress & Legging Set |
Cosy Sweatshirt Dress |
ZULILY
This is a Mudpie dress that I saw for sale on Zulily a little while ago |
And there you have it! Those are my favorite places to shop for girls clothes! I hope this makes the idea of dress your little girl easier and less overwhelming for you! Or maybe that was just me... ;)
Little girls seem so fun to dress up! And all of the bows and accessories are endless. It's a challenge shopping for a boy. Have you seen how small the boy sections are compared to the girls section at stores? It's sad and ridiculous!
