Let's Talk: Guys In Your Life

Andrea over at Momfessionals has a new link up called Let's Talk, where each month we have a different topic to discuss and share. I had to link up this month because the topic is...

Husbands, boyfriends, sons, or other guys in your life. I feel like I share so much about myself and Hadley on the blog, that I was really excited to have an excuse to talk about this guy...

Johnathon is most definitely the fearless leader of our family. He seriously keeps this whole show running! I could ramble on and on about how great of a husband and father he is (he totally is!), but I thought it would be fun to share with y'all little tidbits about Johnathon today! So here we go...all about Johnathon

1) He doesn't do spontaneous questions well...

Okay so one of the first times I ever really hung out with Johnathon, he was driving us from Fort Worth to Dallas (about a 30-40 min drive) for a mutual friend's engagement party. It was a little weird because I didn't know him that well, and my room mate at the time pretty much volunteered him to drive me so I didn't have to go alone. I thought he was really cute and decided to get to know him better/keep the conversation going by playing a round of 20 Questions. Oh goodness, was that so not the right game to play with Johnathon. I started with "What's your favorite color?" and he paused for probably a good 10 seconds before he was like "I dunno, get back to me on that one." What. What grown adult doesn't know their favorite color??! I followed up with things like "Favorite movie?" "Favorite book?" "Favorite band?" I literally got nothing. He finally told me that he doesn't do well with rapid fire questions, and that pretty much put the kabosh on my car game, and left us with 20 minutes to kill before we got to Dallas. All's well that end's well though because here we are, happily married, and I can officially report the following....Green, Braveheart, Goosebumps books, and 80's rock music. :)

2)Johnathon has a huge sweet tooth/fear of vegetables...

I have never met anyone who eats so many sweets/such few vegetables as Johnathon does and isn't 500lbs. I realized pretty early on in our relationship that Johnathon just wasn't a vegetable guy. This wasn't a huge problem until we got married, and I had to cook dinners for us most nights. I don't care how small I chop them, or what kind of cheesy, creamy sauce I put them in, Johnathon can sniff out a vegetable like nobody's business. He is slowly coming around on them though. I definitely wouldn't say he loves vegetables, but he will eat a respectable garden salad, and even ate the beef and vegetable soup I made last week...

I couldn't believe it
He also subsists largely off of breakfast cereal. But not any breakfast cereal...kids breakfast cereal. Cocoa Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch are currently in the line up. The unfair best part about Johnathon's eating habits, is that he can decide to just have one oatmeal cream pie instead of two and he will wake up the next morning two pounds lighter. The injustice.

3) He is really good at building things...

Johnathon is an engineer so I feel like he is just innately good at building things, fixing things, and figuring out how things work. When we first got married and moved into a house, Johnathon really started to do woodworking as a hobby. He started out with a coffee table, and then moved on to this book shelf...

I am still to this day totally impressed that he made that! :)

He put most of his tools in storage when we moved out to Kwaj, but I can't wait to see what he builds once we are back in the states!

**This ability of Johnathon's to be handy has led to Johnathon being pretty gung ho about DIY projects, and that has backfired a time or two. Specifically, the time he thought he could shave our Australian Shepard mix dog with an electric razor with no formal training...***

Sadie before...

Sadie after...

woof

Sadie now immediately pees on the spot whenever she hears an electric razor, so...while handy...Johnathon has now left dog grooming to the professionals.

 4) He is really, REALLY fast...

Johnathon ran track in high school and college, and was specifically a sprinter. He will hate me for bragging, but he is a really fast sprinter! Obviously he doesn't run track anymore, but I love watching him play all the rec sports out here so that I still get to see how fast he is! :)

5) He is a bit of a gamer...

Okay a lot of a gamer. Like...World of Warcraft gamer. Sorry ladies..he's taken. ;) He doesn't play as often these days because life and Hadster keeps us busy, but he is doing his best to train Hadley to be his player two...

...and I don't think she minds. They already have a date to attend Comic-Con together in coordinating Star Wars outfits. Adorable.

6) He needs his own set of bedsheets...

This fact may be more about me than Johnathon, but apparently...I am a sheet stealer. I say you snooze you lose. Either way, we figured out early on in married life that we sleep best if we each have our own comforter. Does it kill me a little bit that I now have two different bedsheets to deal with? Yes, yes it does. Is it for the best? Absolutely.

7) He is the organized one of the family...

We have more family spreadsheets that I know what to do with...

You know how sometimes you recognize a quality in someone that you are so severely lacking in yourself that it just makes you that much more fond of the person?! Yeah...Johnathon's organizations skills make me love him even more! Johnathon keeps track of all our important stuff, and seriously keeps our family organized and on track. I would be lost without him and his spreadsheets!!! ;)

8) Hadley is is mini me...

Right when Hadley was born everyone would say how much she looked like Johnathon. I have searched in vain for some sort of physical similarity between Hadley and I, and all I've found so far are her ears. The rest is all Johnathon. Even strangers will stop us and say how much Johnathon and Hadley look alike. It really is uncanny...

9) He makes me laugh everyday...

I know it sounds so cheesy, but I love that I get to spend the rest of my life with somebody who makes me smile every day. I'm so glad God gave me someone who is the same brand of goofy/awkward/silly as me! Life can get tough, and it's so important to have someone to go through it with who will bring joy and light to your life.

10) He is the greatest husband and father ever!!!

So that's a little bit about the man behind the blog! I'd like to do a litte Q&A type blog with Johnathon in the future, but as we established above, I will need to give him plenty of time to answer the questions! :) Thanks for letting me share a little bit about Johnathon with y'all today!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday everyone! I can't believe next week is MARCH! Hadley and I have been flying solo for part of this week, and we are very excited to have Johnathon back home for the weekend!

Since it's Friday, I am linking up with Andrea, Erika, and Narci for some Friday Favorites!

ONE

I feel like every week I find a new Etsy shop that gets me all giddy and excited inside! This week it's Everfitte. I feel like after spending most of my tween years wearing shirts that say stuff, (I blame Limited Too...children of the late 90's you know what I'm talking about!) I've been a little hesitant to re-dip a toe into the graphic tee pond. But these shirts look too cute and comfy to pass up!! I can just picture getting all cozy in that "tea shirt" or rocking this one with my workout pants that I wear even when I don't go to the gym...

Also, this one...

Obsessed. I may end up with one or three of these in my closet. Because a girl can never have enough 80's sweatshirt inspired graphic tees. Am I right?!

TWO

I was trying to decide if I wanted to splurge on buying Hadley some PB Kids Easter toys, when I stumbled across these Robeez Fuzzy Bunny Crib Shoes on Amazon. Sold. We are big fans of Robeez in our house, and when I saw the cuteness that is these bunny shoes, I knew they were going in Hadley's Easter basket. If these puppies don't encourage Hadster to take her first steps...or manically try and chew on her feet...I don't know what will!

P.S.-Robeez run REALLY LARGE, so if you buy a pair I recommend sizing down!

THREE

We don't get commercials out here, so I hadn't seen trailers for Miracles From Heaven until recently. I read an article where Jennifer Garner talked about how making this movie (based on a true story) encouraged her and her kids to start going to church full time.  I watched the trailer and read more about the real life little girl the movie is about, and got goosebumps hearing her story. It is such an amazing story and I can't wait to see this movie and read the book!

FOUR

I'm part of a group of ladies that get together once a month to play Bunco at each other's houses. I've been playing for almost two years now, and I love it! When I started I'd never played Bunco, and I'd only seen them play it on Real Housewives. I kind of assumed wearing crazy wigs, and throwing drinks at each other was standard Bunco etiquette. Luckily, no drinks have been thrown so far, but I am still waiting on the crazy wigs! ;) This past weekend was the last Bunco for one of our members Sheila! Sheila and her family are moving back to the states next month, and we will miss them terribly! Also, I will miss Sheila counting dice for me...you have to perform mental math and chat at the same time in Bunco, and that is just to much for this college grad to handle! We are so sad to see Sheila and her family go, but we are so excited for their opportunities back in the states! WE LOVE YOU SHEILA!

FIVE

The toothbrush is a teething lifesaver!

Teething. Just when I thought we were done...we are back at it. Four of Hadley's top teeth poked through this month, and even though they are through the gums, the teeth haven't really "come down" all the way. I don't see any new teeth so I assume the discomfort is from her teeth coming down more?!! It's not as bad as some babies I'm sure, but it is doing a number on Hadley's naps and bottle consumption. It also means that every photo I take of Hadley will involve her toothbrush, foam monster, or her fingers in and around her mouth. At all times...

Sigh. Pray for us...

SIX

I think I've mentioned before, but Johnathon's 30th birthday and our 4th wedding anniversary are within three weeks of each other. Since they both happen in late September/Early October, we thought that would be a great time of year to visit Boston! Neither of us have been but we've always wanted to go, so we are looking for suggestions of where to stay, eat, and visit. I am a huge history buff so I definitely want to do all the Revolutionary War stops, and maybe get to Salem if we have time and it's not too far of a trip out of the way...

A stop at Fenway Park for sure...

But other than that we are totally open to suggestions! Feel free to leave me a comment of your favorite Boston pit stops!

Have a great weekend, and happy Friday everyone!

What's Up Wednesday: February Edition

Happy Hump Day everyone! We are halfway to weekend status and I couldn't be more thrilled! Today I am linking up with Mel, Sheaffer, and Shay for What's Up Wednesday!

The last Wednesday of every month, we link up and answer the following questions:

So here we go...

What We're Eating This Week

I realize this picture doesn't exactly scream delicious, but this Asian Vegetable Beef Soup is the BOMB!! Even my vegetable fearing husband ate it and liked it! If you like Pho or any kind of Asian flavor soup this one is for you! I got the recipe from a Taste of Home cookbook, and normally when I think of Taste of Home I think...Cream of Mushroom soup. All their stuff is usually creamy and delicious, but not good for my waistline, so I was jazzed to find a soup that was healthier, but still yummy! You can find the recipe here

What I'm Reminiscing About

I was looking through old FB photos the other day and came across these gems:

This would be Johnathon and I on our honeymoon in Jamaica when we climbed Dunn's River Falls. There are just so many things to say about these photos...my shirt, Johnathon's hair, my face when I jumped in the cold, cold water. Gosh time flies when your having fun! I loved our honeymoon, and I'm so glad we went to Jamaica! I have such good memories of that day and our honeymoon, and I hope we get to go back someday!

What I'm Loving

HULA CLASS!! This is our second week in and I'm loving it! I'm not even going to try and pretend like we're good (except Angela!), but what we lack in grace and form, we more than make up for in enthusiasm!

ALOHA!

What We've Been Up To

Pretty much the usual stuff. Trying to find more and more "adventures" to take Hadley on during the day to keep her busy. I've learned boredom=death in this house. We've been taking a swing in our neighbors hammock a lot lately...

And we even lived dangerously and stayed up past our morning nap time to attend Fairy Tale Day at the library...

Until Hadley tried to fall asleep on a bean bag at storytime...then we headed home for naps!

Other than that, it's pretty much the usual work and activities over here!

What I'm Dreading

Hehehe...yep!

The dentist. We all have appointments in March and I'm not excited. But really...is anyone ever excited to see the dentist?! I'm really cavity prone, so I'm hoping for some healthy chompers this time!

What I'm Working On

My birthday list! Don't laugh but I still make one and give it to my husband and family every year! Here are the items topping my list this year:
1) Rodan and Fields. I've heard amazing things. Being out here in the tropics, I've noticed my skin starting to look dull and freckly/sunspot-ish. I'm eyeballing the Reverse regimen, and I have high hopes.

2) Clothes from Gray Monroe. I've discovered this online boutique awhile back, and they have such cute stuff for really reasonable prices! The ballet skirt above, and these shirts are some of my favorites!

3) Ivanka Trump Leopard Flats from Nordstroms. Be still my heart!

What I'm Excited About

The future. How's that for vague on nondescript?! Lol but seriously, when we started 2016 we knew this would be a big year for us. Lots of future planning going on here. No specific plans, but Johnathon and I are both long term planners and we like to discuss the future, and talk about our hopes for our family and ourselves! I think 2016 is going to be a good year!

What I'm Watching/Reading

I've been reading a lot of chic-lit lately, so I thought it was time to step it up and read a grownup book. The Nightingale is about two sisters living in France and their experiences during WWII. I'm just a little ways into it so far, but I'm intrigued!
As for t.v. shows, Johnathon and I are finishing up Chuck...

It's such a fun, upbeat show with enough ongoing plot to keep you intrigued! I've really enjoyed watching it. But if you were to ask me what I'm watching this weekend the answer is most definitely this:

Holy excited! The only way this could get better would be if it came with a remake of Saved By The Bell! #Baysideforever

What I'm Listening To

Hadley and I love to jam while we play during the day. Our current groove...School House Rock Radio on Pandora. Pretty hip I know. You may laugh now, but we are gonna know the Preamble, and how to count by 3's in no time! And conjunctions...we know their functions, for sure!

What I'm Wearing

I'm still loving my Pleione tunic top from Nordstrom's...

But if we are totally being honest, most days it's workout clothes, regardless of whether I go to the gym or not. The usual ensemble is based around these puppies right here...

Zella "Live In" Slim Fit Leggings

What I'm Doing This Weekend

I think we are going to watch some of our friends play in their band on Saturday, and then the rest of the weekend is going to be pretty chill. I would bet there will be lots of bubble baths though...

She loves the bath tabs that change the water different colors...the water isn't normally that color ;)
We <3 bubble baths! :)

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

I'm looking forward to two wildly different things next month...St. Patrick's Day and Easter. Talk about two ends of the spectrum there. Not sure why, but I am a big fan of St. Patrick's Day. Maybe it's the Irish roots in me, or that my last name is McClellan, or the green beer....hard to tell, but I love St. Patty's Day. Kwaj always has a big celebration each year that is so fun, so our little island definitely goes all out. The pictures above are of our girls group getting our dance on at the St. Patty's Day celebration two years ago. Last year we were traveling back to Kwaj from the states with 6 week old Hadley so we didn't get to celebrate. I'm excited we will be able to this year.

Easter 2014
I'm also really excited for Easter. Springtime, flowers, the Easter bunny, but most importantly we celebrate Jesus's unfailing love and sacrifice for us. What a wonderful day of celebrating God's love for his children. Last year, Easter was a bit of a fail for us all around. Kwaj has a wonderful sunrise chruch service at the beach that we missed  because the idea of waking up an eight week old baby and praying the she lasted all the way through the service was just too much for us. We had an Easter dinner with friends at the Country Club later that day, and it was really the first time we took Hadley out to a social function that we couldn't just sneak home too if she started fussing. I was so nervous the whole time, and trying to juggle a baby with reflux who wouldn't nurse, while trying to converse with friends was too much for this new mommy. And I didn't get Hadley an Easter basket. I'm at least ahead on the Easter basket front this year, and I have high hopes for Easter service as well!

What Else is New

That's about all I got!! Can't wait to read everyone else's Link Up's and see what's new with everyone!
