Weekend Recap: Bowling Alleys and Birthdays

We had a fun three day weekend out here on Kwaj, and I hope y'all did as well! We have been trying to be more purposeful with our weekends in 2016, and so far so good! I feel like when you have a baby it can be easy to fall into the same routine, and to stick around the house because it's easier than going out, finding a babysitter, etc. However, now that Hadley is almost one, it is starting to get easier to take her out places with us, and we want to make memories with her instead of just hanging out around the house each weekend.

So we kicked of the weekend Saturday night (Friday for those of you stateside), with a trip to the Kwaj bowling alley. We have lived here 2.5 years and have yet to go to the bowling alley. My friend Sarah mentioned awhile back that she and her husband like to take their daughter Maya with them bowling because she loves all the lights, music, and sounds there. We thought Hadley would get a kick out of it too, so we decided to get in on the fun! We met up with the Dahl and Mitchell families at the bowling alley after work, and were pleasantly surprised to find out that hidden on the first floor of the Community Activities building was an 8 lane BYOB bowling alley complete with black lights and dance tunes! How did we never know that was back there?? There was hardly anyone else there, so we just walked in, took over two lanes, and for 8$ had ourselves a bowling party!

The whole gang chillin' under black lights and cheering Owen on!

Hadley was ALL ABOUT BOWLING. There was so much for her to take in and watch and there was no shortage of free babysitters friends for her to play with!

Owen and Angela made sure Hadster had a constant supply of puffs

Aiden was a big hit too!

She also really liked helping daddy and Uncle Jon keep score

Hadley also had her favorite gal pal Maya to hang with too!

The Vail's stopped by, but their son Aksel wasn't a huge fan of all the noise and cheering so they only stayed for a little bit!

Towards the end of bowling, Angela and Jon's youngest son was giving it all he had trying to knock over a pin (he's in preschool). He and Jon had been working on his form all night long but hadn't had any luck. Then on one of his last bowls....HE KNOCKED DOWN LIKE 6 PINS!!! WAY TO GO OWEN!!!

This is the look of pure determination and focus

He nailed it!!!

WAY TO GO OWEN!!!

Even Angela and Jon got in on the celebration! ;)

Our impromptu bowling night was so much fun, and I'm so glad we have friends that were willing to join in at the last minute! In case you were wondering....here are the scores at the end of the game:

I'd like to pretend that I knew we weren't playing competitively, and that that is the reason behind my astounding 57, but truthfully I was trying somewhere between {a little too much - my hardest}. I advocated for playing with bumpers, but nobody really seemed to pick up on the necessity in my voice. The good news is that Johnathon came in second with 127 so the McClellan name is not totally ruined around the bowling alley!

On Sunday we decided to do a baby swap with the Dahl's so that we could each have an hour or so with our respective hubbies, and no babies! Johnathon and I decided to spend our hour snorkeling and laying by the beach. Ever since my shark encounter I have been too nervous to snorkel too far from shore, so the shots of the coral really don't do the reef justice, but here are a couple of pictures of our snorkel trip:

We took Maya for an hour the next day, and she and Hadley had a lot of fun watching Sophia the First and playing with Hadley's learning table!

Sunday night we celebrated our good friend Cher's birthday with cupcakes and drinks on the beach! It was a beautiful sunset and an overall gorgeous night in which to celebrate this awesome lady's birthday!!

Happy Birthday Cher!!!

Finally, on Monday, Johnathon decided it would be a good idea to enter into this Park and Ride race in which you and a partner each bike 6 miles then run 6 miles for a grand total of 12miles, WITHOUT TRAINING FOR IT. I should also mention that Johnathon had surgery on his ACL last April, and still has some knee pain that he is dealing with. Sigh...men. He and Jon partnered up, and actually did really well, especially when you consider the fact that they hadn't trained in the slightest, and Johnathon had never raced on a racing bike before. I watched their first two laps around the airport, but had to take the baby home before the race finished. I have it on good authority, however, that Johnathon was not feelin' to peppy after the race was over. He walked in the back door after the race, and told me the only thing that kept him going the last lap was the thought of the barbacoa tacos and carrot cake that were waiting for him at home. And that my friends is precisely what my athlete for a husband did...he ate tacos and carrot cake, eased himself into our recliner, and was sound asleep by 9 o' clock. Here are the few pictures I snapped during the race. Apologies for the rough action shots, but I was trying to hold a wiggling baby and the dog while snapping these bad boys!

Johnathon going strong after lap one

His partner Jon making a quick stop at the water table

Johnathon completing the bike portion- he informed me his back was so tired from hunching over, that the entire last lap he biked with his back straight and head up, JUST LIKE in the Tour de France ;)

And that pretty much sums up the weekend! We are super excited for the short work week, and next weekend Uncle Swanie comes to visit!!!
