Well, we packed up our stuff from Austin, and have made our way to Detroit, Michigan! But not before waking up at the crack of dawn on our last morning in Austin, loading the dog onto her cargo flight, and catching our 6:15am flight to Detroit by way of Atlanta. The only saving grace of our trip was that Johnathon surprised me and upgraded us to first class from Austin to Atlanta. The plane hadn't even taken off yet and the flight attendants were making sure we had lots of stuff to drink. One of the attendants figured out very quickly that I don't fly well and brought me free Bailey's to put in my coffee. (She also informed me that she was in no way judging me for drinking at 6am...I felt a bond with her almost immediately). We landed in Michigan with not a single bag lost, and they only misplaced our dog for two and a half hours before delivering her safely to the cargo hold in one neurotic piece. Overall, I'm considering that leg of our trip a victory!
Once we got to Johnathon's parents house we had a big dinner with his whole family, then proceeded to sleep for 12 hours straight. Fairly certain I haven't done that since college. I have to say, as much as I love Texas, nothing can beat the weather in Michigan right now. It has been 70 and sunny everyday so far! I was going to go for a run my first morning here, but I woke up after 10am and figured it would be too hot. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did not have to restrict my outdoor activities to occurring between 5-7am and 8-10pm due to ridiculous heat! Bonus!
One our first day, Johnathon took me on a tour of his college campus at Oakland University (GO HONEY BEARS!!)...technically their Golden Grizzlies...but who's ever heard of a golden grizzly?! Winnie the Pooh is as close to a Golden Grizzly as I've ever seen, and he's clearly a honey bear. This is a source of constant debate in our house, but hey, I digress...
Anyway, they have a very cool mansion on the university grounds called the Meadowbrook Mansion. The inside was closed but we got to walk around the beautiful grounds and take some pretty pictures...

On Friday we took my mother-in-law and my nephew Ethan to a Tiger's game at Comerica Park for his belated birthday present. Being a Ranger's fan I was skeptical of walking into enemy territory, but I have to say the park is very cool. They even have these huge tiger statues right as you walk into the park that are very impressive. Naturally I made everyone stop so I could get a quality photo of us growling in front of the statues...

Grrrrrr...go Tigers? |
We had really nice seats along the first base line, and I got a full run down of the Tiger's line up from Ethan. He takes his baseball very seriously.

Right around the 7th inning stretch, my mother in law, Ethan, and Johnathon all decided they needed a food/bathroom break which left me by myself in the stands. Normally, this wouldn't have been a problem except that I was the only one in Ranger's colors, and the jumbotron picked that exact moment to scan the crowd and land right on our seats. Not only was I in the completely wrong colors, but nobody was around me so I looked like a huge creep with no friends. Awesome. The game was a really great time though, and I know Ethan really enjoyed it. Since Johnathon and I live in Texas we were really glad that we got to spend some quality time with our nephew. Here are some more pictures from the Tiger's game.
